    9mm cycling issues

Let me start off my saying I'm new to the pistol reloading scene, loaded my share of bottleneck cartridges and taking on a new venture.

    Glock 19
    9mm Xtreme HP 147 gn
    Mixed brass
    Worked up to 3.6gn titegroup

The issue I'm having is only maybe 1 in 10 will cycle this load. I'm not seeing any signs of pressure and the data that I've come across says that this should be my max load. I'm willing to go to a higher charge but figured I'd run it by everyone first...

Could I be having a crimp issue or is my charge to low?

Another thing to add, my brass comes out very sooted...

    Thanks!

How are you measuring powder? Tightening crimp could help your situation.

I'm using a drop to get it close then trickling up to the final charge...
I was thinking the crimp may be my issue and that's why I chose to go this route...
Reloaded thousands of rifle rounds and never crimped so it's another new adventure

I didn't crimp 9mm back when I loaded it. Since you are hand charging, powder consistency wouldn't be an issue then.

I pretty much just crimp to close the bell so it passes a case checker...

Sooting and not cycling the action are both signs of the load being too light. Like you said 3.6 is the listed max from Hodgdon. That leads me to wonder if you have checked your scale against a standard recently?

I'm not sure how I would go about checking the accuracy of my scale? I know when I weigh a bullet it's around what it should weigh...
And unfortunately I've only got 1 scale

So... I'm feeling a bit humbled this morning... Went and had a look at my scale and to find out when set to 0 with pan in place scale read .7 grains! I didn't re level the scale from the last time I packed up and moved I guess!!!

I'm off now with my head hung low to purchase a set of check weights and then pull and verify a bunch of rounds I have ready!

Thanks Renee for stating the obvious!!

Lol. There ya go. I figured it'd be an operator error on powder. Not much else could've been the problem. Tightening a crimp can clean up a dirty load if you still have an issue after you fix what you found.
